Writing tips: geography and history
It is always important to get the geography and history correct. I once edited a book where the main characters left central London and journey to a city called Bath for lunch, by taxi. OK, first, a taxi from London to Bath and back would cost about $5,000. Second, it would take 3-4 hours to get there, same to get back. Your readers will notice the error and you will lose credibility.
Another book had a boat anchor in the middle of the Red Sea and send down divers. The middle of the Red Sea is 1,000m deep, so no anchors and no diving!
Your readers will always spot every single mistake you make, and email you, complaining about it and wasting your time. Facts need to be correct, and historical dates. Use wiki to check them.
